Across the road from the Academy is a characteristic courtyard of old Larnaca, where several eras met.
At its center is an elegant ruin on a raised platform - like on a pedestal; if a house is imagined as a man, it may be a homeless aristocrat.
Abandoned houses in Cyprus usually mean that the owners were forced to leave during the events of 1974. This house was once occupied by the Rector of the American Academy, the successful educational institution we just saw, but for some reason he no longer lives here.
At the end of the 19th century, in the era of eclecticism, it was customary to make the facades stylistically in a variety of ways — from Gothic narrow windows with arches to Renaissance quotes — Cyprus as a meeting point of different tastes and ambitions.
Concrete blocks were added to these decorations and also a water pipe from which the balcony fence was welded — this, apparently, was done after the Rector left.
Local residents carefully surrounded the old house with tubs of flowers, but they do not know the reasons for the abandonment.
From here we go on little Stylianou Lena Street to probably the most beautiful Art Deco mansion on the island.
